Moodle 4.4 is here - our highlights at a glance
Moodle 4.4 was released on April 22! Here are our personal highlights of this new version.
As usual, we wait for the first bug fix update after the release before we start with the upgrades for our customers. In this way, we avoid any bugs from development being passed on.
We are currently planning information events on the new version. Customer systems that continue to run with the LTS version Moodle 4.1 will remain unchanged - the next update will be with Moodle 4.5.

Highlights of Moodle 4.4
Course room format
- Topic sections are now called "New section" instead of being numbered consecutively.
- In the course index (menu on the left), click on a section name to display only this content in the course area.
Course enrollment
- When enrolling for a course manually, an e-mail with enrollment information can be sent automatically - a long-awaited feature!
Messages with Matrix Messenger
- The Moodle Messenger feature now supports course groups using Matrix Messenger.
BigBlueButton
- Important: Anyone using the free version must now register with Blindsidenetworks. Own systems or systems operated via eLeDia are not affected.
Test module
- New: The "Ordering" question type for sorting answers.
- Several separate evaluations possible for tests - particularly helpful for tests with different subject areas.
Text editor
- TinyMCE is the default editor from Moodle 4.4 onwards. The previous Atto editor remains available as an option, but will be removed with version 4.5.
Usability improvements
- The login form now offers an option to display the entered password (must be activated).
- Teachers can post forum posts in several group forums at the same time.
Further functions
- New display of the activity icons.
- Multi-factor authentication now also via SMS.
